Q: Can you tell me about the history of CFT?
A: Christian Family Theatre began in 1995 under the leadership of Linda Hurstell. From approximately 2007-2015, CFT thrived under the leadership of Gale Bowen, Kay Stokes, and Krista Anderson. In 2015, we experienced a name change and a venue change, but our mission to empower the next generation of actors has remained steadfast! Other influential executive team members include Ileana Harrell, Holly Fleeman, Michelle Newland, Isabella Lex, Julia Phillips, and Misha Johns. No matter the venue, the leaders, or the students, our mission remains the same!
Q: How can I register my child for CFT and does my child need experience to join CFT?
A: Registration for new students opens in June 2024 and will remain open until September 1, 2024 or until the troupes are full. We take students of all experience levels and everyone receives a role! Registration links will be posted on our website and our social media pages.
Q: When/where do you meet? What are the ages for each troupe?
A: All classes meet at Mount Paran North in Marietta on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 8:00 PM.
Apprentice Troupe—Ages 8+ years old
Storyteller Troupe—Ages 10+ years old
Troubadour Troupe—Ages 13+ years old
Artisan Troupe—Ages 15-18 years old
Q: Do you take students mid-year?
A: No. After September 1, the casting process begins for one minor production and one major production for each troupe. Adding students after our first class changes the class dynamics and alters the casting plans.
Q: I’ve heard that roles are assigned uniquely with CFT. What is your process?
A: Students present an audition song and monologue. Then the Directors and Executive Team prayerfully consider the class size and experience level before choosing a play that suits each troupe. Students do not audition for a particular role.
Q: I’m too old to be in CFT, but I’m interested in being a leader. Whom should I contact?
A: Reach out to Michelle Newland at cftleadership@gmail.com. We are a non-profit organization and all of our leaders are volunteers! We welcome other service-minded people who love the Lord and love producing quality theater productions with amazing students.
